A Year On
I was just thinking through what happened last year. And I think the most interesting thing that happened exactly a year ago was my "experience" in the hospital. Haha! I spent the whole of the first week in the hospital. heh.
Recollection..
My New Year
I woke up with high fever - 39.4 dC. (yikes) My temperature fluctuated between 38 dC and 40 dC the whole day. By that evening, the temperature remained high, so daddy brought me to the hospital for a check up. Because we just came back from China then, because we came into contact with poultry, because there was the bird flu scare, my dad asked me to pack my things and we went straight to TTSH.
At The Hospital
There were a lot of people there. All the doctors and nurses wore masks. We waited. Then everyone were chased out of the waiting area because there was a confirmed bird flu victim. I saw doctors and nurses shuffling from one room to another, I heard people vommiting over at the A and E side, I smelled medicine.. haha.
The Questions
"Where have you been?"
"What did you do?"
"Did you come into contact with any poultry?"
"How do you feel?"
"Any vommitting? Diahrrhoe (eh, is that how you spell it..)? Breathelessness?"
My Ward
Isolation Room! Thank God it came with a television and a big toilet. Everyone that came in had to wear masks, gloves and a full body protector. Yes, even if they only came in for 1 minute. heh. Before they leave the room, they'll remove the glooves and the body protector, and wash they hands with disinfection soap. haha.
My Doctor
I remember him, Doctor Shawn. haahaa! He is so cute. Someone that I looked forward to see every morning. haha! Few minutes after i was warded HE came in with a few bottles and needles and a pretty assistant. Ahhhhh... the needle was HUGE and THICK. The syringe was bigger than normal! I told him, "That's huge." Then he replied, "I know... Don't look at it alright, I am sorry I have to take your blood twice. Small poke, that's it." Yea right. Small poke.
The Procedure
I wasn't allowed to drink or eat after 2am the first night. I was told that I have a procedure the next morning. Haha. Initially I was quite curious about it. I kept looking at the clock and looking out of the door to see if anyone was coming to attend to me. Then the moment I saw them, I was like, "Oh my goodness..." The two nurses were seriously overdressed. They looked like astronauts to me! They were fully covered from head to toe, with the huge head gear and were breathing through oxygen tanks? heh. She said she was going to stick this tube (about 3mm wide in diameter) up my nose. OUCHOUCHOUCH. She tried to "stuff" it up my nose, but it didnt go through. heh. I only knew it when through when I could feel the tube in my throat. It felt as if i was choking/forced to vomit! haha. No wonder they didn't allow me to drink or eat. heh! So guess what was in the bottle that was connected to the tube? HAHA!
My Bruises
Yeap! I went back with big bruises on both arms because of the blood tests. Heh.
My Loved Ones
The only people that visited me everyday were my parents! Other than the doctors and nurses. heh. All they could do was stand outside the room and look at me/talk to me. It meant a lot to me when they came down, because I was really bored. And I think that experience made me want to love my parents even more! I had a surprise visit from Sister Poh Suan and Zhi. Whar, it meant a lot to me too. The SMSes toO!
Whooo, I really thank God that He has seen me through this experience. It was then that I really understood to trust in God when everything really seem so ambiguous. I was really scared when they made me a bird flu suspect. I remember worrying about it and thinking about death there and then. At that point in time, I totally forgot about God. Until Andrea reminded me that God was with me awaiting for my blood test results. So drama! Yet so memorable. heeeheee.
I spent this new year with my beloved girlfriends. New year with new resolutions. I am excited! Looking forward to a new journey with God. This year shall be a year of love...
" Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts and He knows everything." 1 John 3:18-20
