Love God, Obey God
The YA cell ministry has started on a book study - Deuteronomy.
To me, Deuteronomy is a super long book. When we were told we were going to do Deuteronomy, I went "HUH...." I used to think it was boring and long, until I had to teach it. Well, then naturally, my perspective had to change.
We're only into our second lesson on Deuteronomy and I am already blessed. I remembered how encouraged we were listening to one another's testimonies on God's grace upon our lives the last lesson. I'm excited to do the rest of the book!
We learned about the overview of Deuteronomy today. We learned about the main themes of Deuteronomy - To remember what the Lord has done; To love and obey God's commands and laws; Obedience brings blessings and disobedience brings curses; God's promises.
The book is full of God's laws and regulations. And the Israelites were supposed to follow all the laws given. It really takes a lot of obedience to follow the laws becuase there are just too many. So often we focus too much on God's laws that we forget the most basic thing... To love God. Serene said, when we love God, we will NATURALLY obey Him. And since we cannot love someone we don't know (in other words we need to know God), we need to know God by reading the bible and immersing ourselves with the word and applying them. THAT is our commitment to the Lord. And hence, we've decided to start a cell blog to encourage one another with testimonies and encourage one another through our insights with God - entusiasts.wordpress.com. Our relationship with God should be life-oriented and we should see GOd in all aspects of our lives.
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Deut 6:5-7
